About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Digital Patent Attorney to join our team at Canon Europe. As a key member of our Intellectual Property department, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality patent services to support our business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert patent drafting, filing, and prosecution services for digital standardization work carried out by Canon Research France (CRF)
  • Work closely with engineers at CRF to draft, file, and prosecute patent applications targeting features of digital standards
  • Conduct freedom to operate, licensing, and enforcement activities
  • Offer advice and support on general IP matters, including travel within Europe
  • Support the development of a culture of continuous technological innovation to enable relevant group companies to build valuable patent portfolios
Requirements
  • Relevant working experience as a patent engineer or attorney, preferably in a private practice or in-house patent department
  • Experience or interest in digital standards and/or standard essential patents work is advantageous
  • Some knowledge of AI technologies and patent law is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to understand business needs and risk
  • Ability to analyze and adapt processes to improve efficiency and minimize risk
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft applications, particularly MS Excel and MS Access
  • Time management skills to balance multiple concurrent tasks/projects
  • Proficiency in English at working level is required; proficiency in a 2nd European language is preferred
