Smiths Detection is a leading provider of detection equipment in the transportation, military, and other markets. We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial & Programmes Controller to join our team in Hemel Hempstead.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage sales forecasting processes, including order intake, revenue, and margin, for the NW Europe region (UK, Ireland, and Israel).
- Oversee programme accounting, including revenue recognition, for the NW Europe region.
- Develop and maintain rolling monthly forecasts for order intake and revenue, looking forward 18 months for the NW Europe market.
- Stay up-to-date on programme developments, sales, and operations to ensure forecasts, budgets, and accounting are accurate and aligned.
- Flag significant issues to NW Europe market management and provide explanations for forecast movements and differences versus actual numbers.
- Manage IFRS15 issues related to programmes, ensuring accounting and forecast accuracy.
- Review programme balances (WIP, deferred revenue, unbilled) monthly and raise accruals or other entries as necessary.
- Prepare weekly KPIs for Market Head and monthly Market Review presentations and data submissions to Divisional HQ.
- Support UK Financial Controller with commercial variance explanations for internal reporting and external audit purposes.
- Develop financial models for bids and tenders and support sales with pricing accuracy reviews.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies for programmes accounting and bids and tenders.
- Lead revenue and order intake for the annual budget and strategic plan process.
- Use LEAN tools to improve forecasting and budgeting process efficiency and effectiveness.
- Monitor and drive improvements in SAP data accuracy and work with Order-to-Invoice team to ensure programme invoicing occurs on schedule.
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Good knowledge or experience of IFRS standards, especially IFRS15 accounting for programmes.
- Experience in commercial sales forecasting and analysis for decision-making.
- Commercially astute and experienced in international, matrix environments.
- Professional, succinct, and confident communicator to senior leadership.
- Good MS Office/Excel, SAP, and management information systems (Oracle EPBCS) skills.
- Detailed knowledge of SAP programme accounting, WBS structures, ZPLANS, and reporting.
- Foreign language skills (especially Hebrew) an advantage.
