Principal Social Worker - Care & Support

About the Role:

The Care and Support teams work with children, young people, and their families when it has been identified they are in need of additional support and services. This may include children in need of care and support or protection plans, private Law proceedings, families in the Public Law Outline (PLO) process, and initiating Care proceedings. The team is well-established and supportive. The Principal Social Worker will work alongside Senior Social Workers, Social Workers, Newly Qualified Social Workers, Wellbeing Workers, and team coordinators. We are committed to supporting professional development and career progression.

About You:

  • Be motivated and determined to achieve successful outcomes for children and young people.
  • Skilful and confident communication to sustain engagement with families in fluctuating circumstances, including where there is hostility and risk.
  • Possess a wide range of knowledge and skills to identify risks to children and help manage those risks; ensuring proportionate and timely intervention is provided and help to build family relationships and identify individual support networks.
  • Be competent in maintaining up-to-date records and report writing.

What You Will Do:

  • Carry a small caseload. Assess and manage risk in more complex cases, and support others to develop risk management skills.
  • Carry out agreed tasks to assist the Team Manager, such as Supervision and oversight of Assessments and care plans.
  • Take the lead in professional development and reflective practice sessions within the team; covering areas of interest and need.
  • Show a commitment to providing a high standard of social work practice by meeting our statutory duties and following policy and procedure.
