Position Overview

The Anaesthetic Department at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a proactive and innovative professional to enhance our team of committed healthcare providers. Our trust serves a diverse community, ensuring high-quality care across various medical specialties.

Our facilities offer surgical interventions for a range of conditions, including colorectal cancer, gynaecology, ENT, trauma, breast surgery, and paediatrics. We manage a busy obstetric unit with a significant number of annual deliveries. Additional services such as chronic pain management, vascular surgery, and urology are provided at our partner hospitals. Opportunities exist to work across multiple sites, including our advanced Elective Orthopaedic Centre.

Key Responsibilities

The job plan for this role is adaptable to meet departmental needs and individual preferences. This position encompasses 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), where the successful candidate will independently manage lists while occasionally collaborating with consultants or trainees. We are open to accommodating special interests of the candidate whenever feasible. A dedicated 1 PA is allocated for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) to facilitate essential Continuing Professional Development (CPD), appraisal, revalidation, and mandatory training. Additional SPA time may be negotiated for those willing to undertake extra responsibilities.

We are committed to working with you to develop an ideal job plan upon your appointment, with a review after three months and annually thereafter to ensure a suitable fit. Essential resources, including administrative support, will be provided to assist you in your role.

Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • Medical degree from a recognized institution
  • FRCA or equivalent qualification
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)

Desirable:

  • Higher qualifications such as ND, PhD, MSc, or MRCP
  • Teaching qualifications

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience at a senior level
  • Able to deliver services independently
  • Comprehensive training in Intensive Care and Anaesthetics
  • Engagement in educational activities
  • Ability to mentor junior staff in their career development

Desirable:

  • Specific educational interests and evidence of innovative educational projects
  • Experience in perioperative training
  • Expertise in regional anaesthesia
