3D Design Manager

The Design Engineering Manager role is a key leadership position and critical in driving business growth through development of our company product portfolio. To achieve this, the role requires a good understanding of industry developments and customer requirements in order to create innovative and effective machine and tooling solutions.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the Design team who produce designs, schematics, 3D models, technical manuals, and assembly drawings.
- Day-to-day management of the Design team, including task allocation, cross-training, team and personal training, performance management, absence management, and effective communication.
- Oversee the development of new and existing product designs, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
- Input drawings and part numbers using the company's MRP system (Factory Master).
- Create, implement, and monitor procedures to ensure a standardized approach across the function.
- Liaise with customers, carry out site visits, and interpret requirements.
- Provide design support to sales and machine build, including installation and programming support.
- Ensure all completed works orders are signed off correctly.
- Provide feedback on project progress, orders, and any escalations.
- Ensure all designs are compliant with relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs enable efficient manufacture.
- Ensure all technical documentation and manuals are produced and kept up to date.
- Act as the main interface between Design and Manufacturing.
- Manage ongoing development of standard operating procedures related to Design processes.
- Support a best practice, innovative, and continuous improvement culture.
- Undertake and support internal and external audits as required.
- Ensure all work areas are clean, tidy, and safe at all times.
The ideal candidate will have:
- 10 years' design experience in an engineering business.
- 5 years' experience in a hands-on leadership/management role.
- Experience of managing design projects of varying complexity, size, and budgets.
- Experience of designing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and software (PLC) controlled machinery.
- 5 years' experience of using Solid Edge or equivalent design tools.
- 5 years' experience of using AutoCAD or equivalent design tools.
- Possession of a mechanical/electrical or other relevant engineering degree or qualification would be a distinct advantage.
