Job Overview

The Property Solicitor position is integral to the Property team within our Legal Services Department at Southern Water. This team is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of properties, including operational waste and water sites, offices, grazing land, housing, renewable energy initiatives, environmental projects, and telecommunications infrastructure. The team plays a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the value of the Company's estate and its income over the long term, which involves the acquisition and disposal of properties and land, as well as managing a lettings portfolio.

  • Deliver, manage, and develop the Company's conveyancing services and processes.
  • Minimize risk in alignment with Company strategy and ensure compliance with legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements to protect the Company's interests in land.
  • Prepare all necessary legal documentation in accordance with the above requirements.
  • Actively promote and uphold the Company's core policies, ensuring excellent customer relations and improving processes to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Engage with third parties and stakeholders, including property owners, developers, external solicitors, and HMLR.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders, providing key expertise and ensuring excellent communication skills are utilized.

About You

You will provide expert advice on property-related matters, negotiate and deliver all legal agreements related to acquisitions, disposals, leases, easements, sewer requisitions, diversions, and adoptions. This role involves managing a caseload of both transactional and advisory matters to secure income through legal fees for the Company.

  • You will be a Solicitor or Legal Executive with approximately 2 to 5 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Previous experience in commercial property is preferred.
  • Experience within a utility company is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with property litigation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Water Industry Act 1991 would be beneficial.

This full-time role offers a hybrid working model between our Durrington office and home. We provide a competitive salary of circa £60,000 per annum, commensurate with skills and experience, along with additional benefits including:
