Job Description

Role Overview

The Design Manager will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and executing all aspects of clean water design projects, as well as wastewater projects where required. This role will involve leading a team of multidisciplinary design engineers to produce design outputs compliant with client specifications and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate design projects from outline design to construction support stages
  • Directly manage a team of design engineers to produce design outputs
  • Manage specialist external design resources as required
  • Prepare and agree fee proposals, programmes, and resource management to ensure design team delivery
  • Produce and manage programmes for design projects to ensure client expectations are met
  • Carry out site scoping/survey visits to obtain necessary information for design development
  • Ensure design development, production, and approval comply with company QA procedures
  • Review, audit, and approve technical reports, appraisals, designs, and drawings to ensure compliance with client health and safety and technical standards
  • Arrange and chair workshops and design meetings to review design proposals and progress
  • Assist with placement and management of procurement packages
  • Support project managers and directors within the business
  • Stay up-to-date with technical and HSQE matters, and be aware of policy and developments in these areas
  • Present technical data or project results to clients and colleagues
  • Maintain design input throughout the project lifecycle

Requirements

  • Experience in a similar role, preferably in clean water design
  • BTEC HNC/HND in an engineering field as a minimum
  • EUSR water hygiene card
  • Competent in using Microsoft Word & Excel

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree in an engineering field
  • Strong AutoCAD design skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Project to manage programmes
  • Membership with relevant professional body
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge

  • Driving license required
