We are seeking a skilled Tooling Project Engineer to support our current production and future new product introductions.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly experienced Tooling Project Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the design of new tooling, from optimisation to build and buy-off, to ensure successful introduction into production. This role will involve project management of tooling vendors, producing 2D CAD drawings, and applying design for manufacture principles to evaluate product designs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Tooling Design and Project Management
  • Review and validate designs for high-pressure die casting tools, trim/clip tools, spray heads, and robot end effectors and jigs & fixtures against specifications & RFQ.
  • Project manage tooling vendors/suppliers, which may involve overseas travelling.
Design and Documentation
  • Produce 2D CAD product, tooling, fixture, and equipment drawings to support manufacturing, quality, and engineering activities.
Design for Manufacture and Tolerance Analysis
  • Participate in feasibility reviews and apply design for manufacture (DFM) principles to evaluate product designs and produce summary reports.
  • Have a complete understanding of component tolerances, dimensional capability statistics, and GD&T.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly experienced Tooling Engineer or Tool Design Engineer with significant experience in design and project management. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proficient using 2D/3D CAD - interrogate & optimise designs.
  • Expert knowledge of tooling - die casting or stamping or plastic injection moulding.
  • Knowledge of robot end effectors/jig & fixtures/runner & cooling design would be beneficial.
  • MAGMASOFT simulation software and analysis (desirable).
  • Project management, supplier vendor management and effective communication skills to build relationships with customers.
