About the Role
GKN Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team in Filton, Bristol. As a key member of our Global Technology Centre (GTC) technology team, you will be responsible for developing advanced composite manufacturing processes for current and future aircraft wing applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute research tasks in the TRL3-6 range, drawing on your broad general knowledge of engineering and the product lifecycle.
- Work on a variety of research tasks, including automated composite material handling and processing, programming of composite equipment, and out-of-autoclave processing.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand and adapt to new technology areas quickly.
- Contribute to multi-year planning and internal/external funding proposals as required.
- Ensure all planning documentation is regularly updated, accurate, and delivery is on track.
Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Engineering (or equivalent) with knowledge and/or experience of automated composite material handling and processing.
- Good general awareness of the product lifecycle, including design, materials, manufacturing, and end-of-life.
- General awareness of budget and schedule management.
- Desirable: experience with CAD design tools, operation of resin mixing and injection equipment, and familiarity with composite component/tooling design and manufacture processes.
