About the Role:
This role is for an Assistant Underwriter to join our Marine Hull and War team at Liberty Specialty Markets. The team forms part of the wider Marine division, which provides Marine Hull insurance for a wide range of vessels and carriers on a global basis.
The candidate will look to maintain relationships with brokers, clients, and business partners to manage a renewal portfolio and help develop new business opportunities.
This is an opportunity to develop and enhance technical underwriting skills with the help of the Marine team and the internal Learning and Development department.
About the Department & Team:
The Marine Hull and War team represents two of the seven underwriting portfolios within our Marine division. We operate both on the Lloyds and Company platform, working closely with partners to tailor our products to changing market conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the execution of the annual business plan development in accordance with stated risk tolerances.
- Support the teams in maintaining and developing broker relationships.
- Assist the team with day-to-day duties in quoting, reviewing renewals, and new business.
- Act as a conduit between the underwriters and underwriting assistants.
- Use rating tools and portals to support data capture across the portfolio, analyzing data and providing insights back to the underwriting team.
- Contribute and participate in all meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practice.
- Contribute new ideas and concepts to support the development and delivery of the business plan.
- Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to support the performance of the underwriting team.
- Support the analysis and subsequent review of output to identify opportunities and/or trends to assist the team in achieving business objectives.
- Process entries, as required, onto relevant systems in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data with relation to both underwriting and aggregate exposures.
- Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements, demonstrating behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to the role, and core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values.
Skills and Experience:
- Solid understanding of insurance business practices focused on the London market.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Intermediate level understanding of Excel and other relevant software.
- A high level of numeracy and literacy skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
- Degree or equivalent qualification desired – e.g. ACII.
