About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Anglican Chaplain to join our team at Serco, a leading provider of essential services. As an Anglican Chaplain, you will play a vital role in providing spiritual care and support to prisoners and staff within our custodial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide pastoral care and spiritual support to prisoners and staff, ensuring their emotional and spiritual needs are met.
  • Develop and deliver worship, meditation, and other faith-based programs to promote spiritual growth and well-being.
  • Collaborate with the Multi-Faith team to ensure that all prisoners have access to worship and other activities that align with their religious convictions.
  • Contribute to the development of local policies, procedures, and practices that promote spiritual care and support.
  • Provide mentoring and personal support to other chaplains and volunteers, including incident response and crisis management.
  • Plan and lead worship, meditation, and prayer services, as well as faith-based meetings and events.
  • Provide pastoral care to prisoners and staff, including crisis intervention and support.
  • Facilitate services provided by contractors and volunteers, ensuring seamless delivery of spiritual care.
  • Acquire and distribute relevant religious literature, supplies, and materials.
  • Participate in Faith Awareness Training for staff, promoting understanding and respect for diverse faiths.
  • Take responsibility for your own spiritual health and development, ensuring time for private prayer, study, and retreat.
  • Attend relevant boards and meetings, actively contributing as chair or team member.
  • Participate in developing strategies to improve and achieve targets, ensuring accurate data collection and analysis.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in delivering spiritual care and support within a custodial environment, with at least 3 years' experience.
  • Flexible approach to working, with ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a multi-faith chaplaincy environment.
  • Ability to fulfill all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.
  • Reader, Religious Brother/Sister, Church Army Evangelist, or other appropriately qualified or licensed minister in the Anglican tradition.
  • Formal endorsement from the Anglican Bishop to HM Prisons.
  • Diocesan DBS clearance and up-to-date safeguarding training.
  • Formal recognized qualification in theology or religious study, with at least three years of Part-Time study.
  • Relevant practical experience in delivery of worship, meditation, group work, and pastoral care, with at least one year of relevant experience post-training.
