Overview of the Construction Team

The Construction team operates as a specialized unit within the highly esteemed Real Estate Services department. They serve a diverse clientele, including nationally recognized builders, developers, commercial clients, entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and construction professionals. Real Estate remains one of the firm's principal practice areas.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation from their training contract and any post-qualification experience in both contentious and non-contentious construction matters, aspiring to advance their career as a construction law expert.

Contentious Responsibilities:

The candidate should be well-versed in the Construction and Engineering Protocol, the procedures of the Technology and Construction Court (TCC), and adjudication under the Construction Act. They will handle issues such as disputed accounts, time and delay claims, workmanship and materials concerns, and professional negligence.

Non-Contentious Responsibilities:

Substantial experience in drafting and negotiating construction contracts, particularly JCT contracts, along with professional terms of engagement, collateral warranties, parent company guarantees, and performance bonds is essential.

Involvement in real estate litigation may be necessary, particularly concerning land rights, contract disputes with clients, and commercial joint ventures and profit-sharing arrangements. Familiarity with insurance law is advantageous but not mandatory.

The candidate will play an active role in developing the practice by managing their own files and collaborating with colleagues on larger transactions. They will have client contact and responsibilities in line with the firm's practices, receiving support and encouragement from team members at all levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operations of cases under partner supervision.
  • Deliver exceptional client service.
  • Complete tasks efficiently and to a high professional standard.
  • Assist in supervising trainee solicitors, depending on experience level.
  • Meet the continuing education requirements set by the Law Society and pursue additional training to stay updated with legal changes.
  • Accurately record all time spent on matters and ensure timely billing.
  • Enhance client relationships and actively promote the department's and firm's services.
  • Participate in networking events and engage in business development activities as appropriate.
