SEN Teaching Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a primary school with a commitment to improvement. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs, including those with learning disabilities and those who have experienced trauma.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualised assistance to pupils with special educational needs, adapting teaching techniques to enhance their confidence and independence.
  • Recognise and address the unique challenges faced by children with learning disabilities, tailoring support accordingly.
  • Assist students in regulating behaviour and emotions, especially those who have experienced trauma, and foster positive interactions and social skills.
  • Work closely with teachers to plan and deliver engaging activities, supporting students during transitions and daily routines.
  • Contribute to formal SEND assessments, considering both academic and emotional aspects, and share valuable insights with families and home schools.
Requirements:
  • Compassion, patience, and flexibility.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Genuine interest in helping children succeed.
  • Prior experience in schools, education settings, or alternative provisions, especially with trauma-informed care, is necessary.
  • You will need to undergo an enhanced DBS check & provide satisfactory references.
