Job Title: Senior Operational Meteorologist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Operational Meteorologist to join our team at the Met Office. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing global on-site embedded and remote environmental services to enable the UK and Allied armed forces to gain operational and tactical advantage during deployments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide operational service delivery knowledge and subject matter expertise of the defence user and global meteorology to collaborate with colleagues across Met Office/Navy Hydrography and Meteorology (HM) teams.
  • Manage and deliver environmental services to Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ), and Joint Force Air Component (JFAC) briefing command teams regularly.
  • Produce seasonal forecasts and climate briefs to assist with planning of current and future operations and exercises.
  • Maintain an on-site embedded presence in PJHQ, JFHQ, and JOMOC.
  • Manage and deliver remote environmental services to deployed defence users.
  • Conduct environmental analysis to respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) from a variety of defence users.
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of Operational Meteorological Forecasting Course (OMFC) or equivalent and Aeronautical Meteorological Forecasting Certificate (AMF) Low and High.
  • UK National status and current DV clearance or willingness to undergo the DV clearance process.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads under pressure and make decisions in areas with poor observation coverage and/or poor model coverage.
  • Excellent communication skills to influence a variety of users when communicating meteorological information.
What We Offer:
  • An annual salary of up to £57,639, including £41,725 base pay, £4,200 per annum Unsocial Hours Shift Allowance, and £2,000 per annum Location Allowance (DEL-Low).
  • An outstanding Civil Service pension with an average employer contribution of 27%.

  • Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.
