The role encompasses a wide array of invasive and non-invasive procedures, including cardiac monitoring analysis, exercise tolerance assessments, and follow-up clinics for pacemakers and complex devices.

Our department is expanding its cardiac device home monitoring services, and we take pride in being among the pioneers of physiologist-led LINQ implantation services.

We welcome applications from qualified technologists with a keen interest in Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) procedures.

Our department is committed to fostering education and encouraging our technologists to specialize in CRM by pursuing advanced qualifications such as IBHRE or BHRS.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess experience working independently in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, performing both diagnostic procedures and Complex Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). You should also have a background in providing support for device implants and assisting with follow-up clinics for both Brady and Complex devices, including remote consultations.

Additionally, you will be expected to work autonomously on Non-Invasive diagnostics, such as Ambulatory monitoring analysis and exercise tolerance testing.

There will be opportunities to engage in the training of Level 6 degree Apprentice Technologists and other junior staff members.

The Torbay Cardiac Centre, established in 2003, features two state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Labs, which were modernized in 2015 to accommodate both elective and emergency procedures. We offer a 24/7 primary PCI service, equipped to perform advanced techniques such as rotablation, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), pressure wire assessments, and intra-aortic balloon pump operations, alongside brady and complex pacing, including subcutaneous ICD implantation.

Job Duties

- Conducting and interpreting 12-lead ECGs with precision across various equipment.

- Applying a comprehensive range of ambulatory monitoring devices, including the presentation, reporting, and analysis of results, along with the generation of factual reports.

- Performing hemodynamic monitoring in the cardiac catheterization suite, including right and left heart pressure assessments, pressure wire usage, and PCI procedures. Proficiency in balloon pump operation is essential.

- Participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation for Primary PCI and cardiac emergencies.

- Committing to skill enhancement in response to service demands.

- Providing technical and resuscitation support for permanent pacemaker implants, including assistance with complex devices.

- Collaborating with Lead Technologists to develop and implement protocols, guidelines, and procedures for the service, ensuring regular reviews to align with evidence-based clinical practices.

- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current training curricula and actively participating in personal professional development, identifying educational and clinical training needs in conjunction with the Departmental Manager.

- Effective communication is crucial in this role, involving verbal and written interactions with patients, their families, clerical staff, nursing and medical personnel, portering staff, and allied professionals.

- Ensuring high standards of patient care in accordance with established protocols and in line with the policies and procedures of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent qualification
  • Successful completion of SCST professional body examinations
  • ILS certification

Desirable

  • Registration with AHCS/RCCP.
