Join BCP Council as a Planning Officer

Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and provide recommendations on various planning applications in accordance with the Local Plan(s), relevant regulations, and legislative frameworks, ensuring compliance with BCP Council's requirements.
- Facilitate public consultations in alignment with Council policies, allowing all stakeholders affected by potential developments to voice their opinions and provide valuable input.
- Address inquiries from the public, Councillors, potential developers, and other stakeholders, delivering prompt and constructive guidance and information.
- Offer planning-related advice and support to assist all customers and interested parties in submitting development applications that adhere to the Local Plan(s) and requirements, ensuring they are approvable.
- Draft reports and appeal statements to uphold the Council's decisions.
- Occasionally present to the Planning Committee to aid in effective decision-making.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- A degree in Town Planning or a related field, along with relevant experience or the ability to demonstrate transferable skills. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Royal Town Planning Institute is preferred, or the capability to work towards such membership. Experience in a Local Authority planning department and handling planning applications is advantageous but not mandatory. Familiarity with planning legislation, such as the Town and Country Planning Act, and the governmental planning framework is beneficial. Understanding of the development management process is also desirable. Strong ability to provide professional advice and guidance, along with presenting information clearly to various stakeholders. Competence in managing a caseload of planning applications and appeals is essential.
