About the RoleThe School Staff Nurse will work in a large, skill-mixed team providing a universal and targeted school nursing service to mainstream primary and secondary schools, pupil referral units, and special schools across the area. The successful candidate will manage a school nursing caseload for a group of schools, with the support and supervision of Band 6 SCPHN School Nurses.
Key Responsibilities- Completing health assessments for children and young people
- Providing classroom teaching on health-related topics
- Holding a safeguarding caseload and ensuring the safety and well-being of children in school
- Developing and implementing safe pathways of care for children with complex medical conditions
- Working with families to provide support and improve their experience of care
- Delivering the Healthy Child Programme to achieve the best outcomes for children
- Communicating effectively with partners to achieve the best outcomes for children and their families
The post holder will have sufficient post-registration nursing experience in a children's/paediatric or adult setting and be able to demonstrate experience in effective multi-agency working. The successful candidate will be committed to providing high-quality care and be able to work in partnership with professionals from multiple agencies to meet the health needs of children and young people.
Patient Safety- The School Staff Nurse will contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep children and young people safe.
- The post holder will safeguard children and young people by recognising and responding to potential risks and escalating concerns when necessary.
- The School Staff Nurse will reflect on their practice to identify areas for improvement and contribute to the development of safe and effective services.
The post holder will be required to register with the NMC and adhere to the NMC Code of Conduct.
