Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our Plant Tissue Culture & Transformation team at The Sainsbury Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Arabidopsis thaliana transformation programme and will also be involved with other diverse plant transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize the sowing of all seed and supervise the growth of plants.
  • Plan and execute transformations.
  • Grow cultures for and carry out plant transformations.
  • Harvest, label, and process seed.
  • Screen for transformants.
  • Maintain axenic stock germplasm.
  • Engage with other plant transformation projects.

Requirements

  • A genuine interest in plants.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have a BSc (2:i) in biological sciences with an emphasis on plant science. At least 2 years of work experience in a plant science research laboratory is required. Prior experience in plant transformation is advantageous, but training will be provided.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time position with a 6-month probationary period. The working hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Friday.
