Calibre Search is collaborating with a prominent multidisciplinary consultancy in the built environment sector, seeking to enhance their team with a Senior Structural Consultant possessing a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience.

This consultancy specializes in the creation, enhancement, and development of the built environment through innovative engineering solutions. Their structural engineers utilize robust engineering principles and a comprehensive knowledge base to evaluate, plan, design, and supervise a diverse range of construction initiatives across the UK.

With a dedicated workforce of 30 technical professionals across two structural departments, this consultancy is eager to welcome a new member to their Hemel Hempstead office, which currently houses a team of fifteen engineers and technicians.

The firm engages in a variety of projects, both large and small, spanning multiple sectors including commercial, research and development, energy, and residential, ensuring a steady stream of engaging work.

They undertake both new construction and refurbishment projects, collaborating closely with in-house teams to deliver comprehensive structural and civil engineering, traffic and transport engineering, building surveying, and geomatics services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in executing structural designs utilizing steel, concrete, masonry, and timber.
  • Engage with clients, project teams, and local authorities.
  • Collaborate with team members and report directly to the project director.
  • Promote the company’s image through professional conduct.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of assigned projects.
  • Prepare technical details for architectural designs and specifications.
  • Attend meetings with architects, clients, subcontractors, and other professionals, representing the business in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Evaluate the sustainability and environmental impact of projects.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, particularly regarding health and safety.

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Proficient design experience in all standard building materials.
  • Understanding of soil mechanics and foundation design principles.
  • Ability to manage client relationships with minimal supervision.
  • Professional representation of the company.
  • A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of two years' post-qualification experience in relevant structural design.
  • Experience in preparing structural designs across conventional materials and refurbishment projects.
  • Capability to assess structural design holistically, identifying potential challenges and solutions while advising clients on design alternatives.
  • Ability to create schematic structural designs based on basic architectural layouts.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction in meetings and correspondence.
  • Collaborative team player.
