The Project Accountant will be instrumental in overseeing the financial management of significant mechanical projects. The successful candidate will take charge of project budgets, revenue and cost assessments, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow generation based on project milestones and invoicing. This role demands a meticulous professional with robust analytical capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and a background in a manufacturing setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight: Monitor and evaluate the financial health of projects, ensuring adherence to budgets and achievement of financial objectives.
- Develop comprehensive project budgets, forecasts, and financial reports for executive review.
- Conduct thorough analyses of project expenditures, pinpoint discrepancies, and propose corrective measures.
- Revenue and Cost Management: Guarantee precise and timely recognition of project revenues and costs, in line with applicable accounting principles.
- Examine and interpret contract stipulations to establish suitable revenue recognition strategies.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure meticulous documentation and tracking of financial activities.
- Cash Flow Oversight: Generate and supervise project cash flows based on construction progress and invoicing milestones.
- Partner with project managers and finance teams to ensure timely invoicing and accurate cash flow projections.
- Finalize and reconcile projects promptly.
- Monthly reconciliation of project sub-ledgers with the general ledger.
- Optimize cash inflows and outflows to enhance working capital and mitigate financial risks.
- Cost Management: Establish and uphold cost control systems and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls regarding project-specific materials and inventory.
- Review and authorize project-related expenses, ensuring alignment with budgetary limits.
- Reporting & Analysis: Generate regular financial reports, including cost tracking, profitability assessments, and variance analyses.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position, candidates should possess:
- A professional accountancy qualification (CIMA or ACCA) with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in revenue and cost management, along with cash flow oversight for large-scale projects.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with a focus on detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, LN).
