About the Role:

Tarmac is seeking a skilled Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter to join our team based out of our Whitwood Contracting Plant in Castleford, covering the Yorkshire region. As a Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter, you will be responsible for maintaining plant equipment primarily on motorways and local authority roads in the region.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Respond to plant breakdowns, ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.
  • Undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment.
  • Own small-scale projects and deliver them in a pragmatic and proactive manner.
  • Take a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities and coordinate with contractors and suppliers when they are on site.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Work with risk assessments and method statements, and contribute to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures.
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system and record all work, including fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs carried out.

Requirements:

  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven experience working within an industrial, factory, or similar environment as a mobile fitter.
  • Strong, practical mechanical systems background, with heavy industry experience preferred.
  • Experience of welding and fabricating to a good standard and ability to remove and fit bearings.
  • Capable of undertaking emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment.
  • Competent in the use of application-based inspection schemes.
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly.
  • Flexibility to attend plant-specific training courses and workshops, as well as a positive approach to travel across the Yorkshire region.
