Ophthalmology Specialist Consultant
Position Overview
Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and skilled Ophthalmology Specialist Consultant to enhance our esteemed and professional ophthalmic team. We aim to recruit two Consultants with a focus on complementary sub-specialties within our service, including but not limited to Pediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro Ophthalmology, or Oculoplastic.
Incentives for Recruitment
Additional recruitment incentives beyond the national pay scales may be available for successful candidates.
Applicants should possess extensive general Ophthalmology experience, demonstrating a solid track record in cataract surgery. You will be a crucial member of our team, contributing your expertise and skills to a dynamic Ophthalmology department.
The successful candidates will join a team of 7 existing Consultants, with plans to expand the Consultant team to 10.
The service operates across three locations, ensuring a comprehensive approach to patient care.
Main Responsibilities
The Ophthalmology service encompasses departments and surgical facilities at three Trust locations. Whenever feasible, we aim to minimize split-site working within the same day. Most Consultants primarily operate at one main site, with occasional duties at the other locations.
Your individual job plan will undergo an annual review and agreement.
The service includes an on-call rota, with Consultants serving as second on call. The on-call designation is classified as Category A, currently following a 1:7 rota, which includes a 5% on-call availability supplement. This is expected to transition to a 1 in 9 rota upon completion of the current recruitment phase.
The SAS grade comprises 7 medical professionals, including one Associate Specialist and six Specialty Doctors.
Additionally, we have two specialty trainees (ST4-7) from the South Yorkshire deanery, who provide the first on-call cover on a 1:9 rota.
Our service is committed to fostering a robust training culture. Specialty Doctors rotate through a structured timetable with protected theatre sessions. Regular Consultant-led teaching sessions are scheduled for Friday afternoons, with allocated SPA time.
Secretarial support is available at all three hospital sites.
