Position Overview

The Senior Speech and Language Therapist will play a vital role within a collaborative team at Mildmay Mission Hospital, ensuring exceptional standards of care.

Implement suitable interventions and assess their effectiveness.

Exhibit clinical proficiency through evidence-based methodologies.

Tailor practices to accommodate individual patient requirements, including cultural considerations.

Maintain accountability for professional conduct and recognize personal boundaries.

Job Duties

1. PRIMARY DUTIES:

Conduct specialized assessments, provide expert advice, and implement treatment plans for clients.

Employ specialized knowledge to make sound clinical judgments.

Deliver appropriate interventions and evaluate their outcomes.

Demonstrate clinical effectiveness through evidence-based practices.

Adapt practices to meet the unique needs of each patient and respect cultural differences.

Be accountable for personal professional actions and understand boundaries.

Adhere to departmental and national protocols as well as the professional code of conduct.

Reflect on patient communication and identify strategies to enhance effectiveness.

Provide guidance to colleagues within the clinical field.

2. MDT Responsibilities:

Participate in MDT meetings and assist in goal setting.

Manage a caseload of patients while contributing to goal setting and planning.

Fulfill key worker responsibilities.

Gather accurate statistical data and document therapy details.

3. Service Development Responsibilities:

Utilize rehabilitation and educational skills to instruct the community in therapeutic techniques.

Collaborate with others to develop outcome measures for high-quality service delivery.

Monitor and enhance quality standards for Speech Therapy.

Identify opportunities for service innovation and development.

4. Education & Research Responsibilities:

Provide training and educational programs.

Develop in-service training initiatives and supervise students.

Lead audits and research within the designated area.

Stay informed on evidence-based best practices.

5. Personal Development:

Commit to personal growth through training and reflective practice.

Maintain a CPD portfolio.

Encourage colleagues to adhere to evidence-based practices.

Ensure proficiency in therapeutic manual handling.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Recognized Speech Therapy Degree
  • HCPC Registration
  • Experience at the master's level
  • Registered Member of RCSLT
  • Member of relevant Clinical Interest Group

Experience:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 6 years post-registration experience
  • Proven experience in managing complex cases and manual handling
  • Continuous Professional Development with specialized courses
  • Experience in assessments, risk management, and training
  • Work within an integrated health and social care team
