Electrical & Mechanical Project Engineer

Location: UK

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical & Mechanical Project Engineer to join our team at Laing O'Rourke. As a key member of our project delivery team, you will be responsible for leading the design and engineering process for complex upgrade and new substation builds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with consultants, OEMs, and clients to compile equipment specifications and ensure technical compliance.
  • Lead engineering teams to progress the design process, ensuring timely delivery of design, engineering, and commissioning deliverables.
  • Interface with clients, design teams, OEMs, and M&E teams to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Support the client design, verification, and assurance process to ensure compliance with client standards.
  • Manage and control all M&E non-conformances, ensuring technical and quality compliance.
  • Work closely with operations on site to create a consistent approach to deliverables.

Requirements:

  • Up to 400KV substation experience.
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or similar level of training.
  • NEC project knowledge.
  • Engineering and design quality audits.
  • National Grid (or similar entity) registration process.
  • National Grid (or similar) transmission procedures – Technical specifications, guidance notes, design handbooks.

Desirable:

  • Circa 5 years in an engineering lead role for power projects.
  • Leadership qualities and good interpersonal skills.
  • Direct delivery, one team approach with supply chain, engineering teams, project teams, and client.
