About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineering Interface Manager to join our team at SSE PLC. As a key member of our HVDC Engineering Team, you will play a critical role in driving forward our projects and bringing innovative thinking to help us grow our teams to successfully deliver a network for Net Zero.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working with the Project Engineering Manager, be responsible for the design interfaces in the delivery of the HVDC Engineering scope for assigned project / package (typical value £700M - £2000M);
  • Working closely with Project Engineering Manager, Lead Project Managers and Project Managers (and Project Director as appropriate) to ensure that Engineering Interfaces and Quality risks are identified and understood, and that appropriate measures are put in place to ensure that issues are dealt with pro-actively where practicable, and to minimise risk to project/asset quality and programme;
  • Efficient management of all interfaces associated with the multi-contract delivery strategy, including Design interfaces between HVDC, AC, civils and cables contracts;
  • Ensure the Design Interface Process and Specifications are followed, and lead in the resolution of conflicts or gaps in a collaborative manner;
  • Drive the smooth exchange of design information between Interfacing Projects;
  • Monitor the interface inputs using the Design Interface Register;
  • Direct Line Management responsibilities of project interface engineers and responsible for the co-ordination of all engineering activities, including the selection and management of engineering consultants, and the technical direction of contractors;
  • Ensure that project technical requirements are clearly and robustly communicated to project teams, and that project teams understand the requirement to refer technical issues to engineering;
  • Promote and manage safety within project portfolio, including Safety in Design, implementation of CDM procedures and Principle designer (PD) practice, with Project Manager, and review of construction methods (RAMS) and commissioning and operational safety requirements;
Requirements
  • A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline (preferably CEng) coupled with significant experience leading multi-discipline teams;
  • Experience in managing design interfaces as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering project;
  • Good technical knowledge of the Transmission network, with technical understanding of core elements, and high-level technical understanding of facilitating functions and an understanding of legal and regulatory obligations for Transmission;
  • Good technical knowledge of relevant legislation and the implications for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM and ESQCR;
  • Good relationships and understanding of consultants and external industry experts and the ability to communicate and challenge complex technical issues and recommendations in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision making by senior management;
