Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ESOL Lecturer to join our team at Hopwood Hall College. As an ESOL Lecturer, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education to our students, helping them to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • To teach a wide range of ESOL courses, including pre-entry level to level 2, to students of all ages and abilities.
  • To contribute to the planning, monitoring, and evaluation of the ESOL curriculum, ensuring that it is relevant, engaging, and effective.
  • To prepare and mark assessments, as well as provide feedback to students, to help them improve their language skills.
  • To promote and participate in the delivery of Basic/Key Skills, ensuring that students have the necessary skills to succeed in their academic and professional lives.
  • To be responsible for the continuous improvement in attendance, punctuality, retention, and achievement of students in designated teaching groups.
  • To produce full, considered, and timely reports and references on students, providing valuable insights into their progress and development.
  • To participate in student interviews, enrolment, and induction, open days, and other liaison activities, ensuring that students receive a warm and welcoming experience.
  • To work co-operatively within a team, attending all team meetings and contributing to the development of the ESOL department.
  • To fully participate in the college's ILT strategy, including contributing to the upkeep of the intranet site, and to adopt fully all curriculum initiatives adopted by the curriculum area.
  • To maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of specialist areas, including ESOL assessments and IQA.
  • To maintain current and appropriate resources for all course units taught, including Schemes of Work, Lesson Plans, and suitable teaching materials, ensuring differentiated learning opportunities are in place.
  • To contribute to the total learning experience of students within the curriculum area, ensuring that they receive a high-quality education that meets their needs and expectations.
  • To ensure the application of Inclusive Learning in all areas of activity, promoting a culture of respect, diversity, and inclusivity.
  • To ensure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in ESOL teaching and learning.
Requirements
  • A teaching qualification, including a PGCE, PGDE, Level 4/5 in Education and Training.
  • An ESL specific qualification, such as The Cambridge or Trinity Certificate or Diploma.
  • Experience of teaching within the subject area, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality education to students of all ages and abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the ESOL/ESL, including current educational initiatives and creative approaches to teaching materials.
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft applications, particularly Word and PowerPoint, with a willingness to undertake IT training relevant to the role.
