KPS operates as the engineering consultancy arm of Kier Group, delivering innovative design solutions, expert technical guidance, and comprehensive engineering support across various business units.

With over 2,000 designs executed annually for more than 400 projects, we stand as one of the leading Temporary Works designers in the UK. Our team of over 100 Temporary Works engineers possesses extensive expertise in the design and verification of Temporary Works for projects of varying scales and sectors.

Our mission is to equip Kier with the technical capabilities necessary to fulfill its vision and to strengthen the Group's competitive edge and reputation.


Key Responsibilities:

As a Principal Engineer at KPS, you will collaborate closely with project teams to facilitate the delivery of a wide range of civil and structural services, encompassing both Temporary and Permanent Works throughout the Kier organization. You will also play a vital role in delivering more complex services by providing solutions that are both safe and feasible in their temporary and permanent forms.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Designing and verifying Temporary Works, both above and below ground, utilizing various materials, and integrating with Permanent Works design when necessary.
  • Providing alternative solutions and value engineering to enhance Kier's reputation.
  • Supporting tender stages and bids with a focus on buildability, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Conducting technical assessments and reviews of third-party designs to ensure compliance with project briefs and client requirements.
  • Mentoring and managing junior team members within KPS.

Candidate Profile:

This Principal Engineer role is ideal for you if:

  • You are a chartered engineer or are pursuing chartered status.
  • You have a keen interest in Temporary Works Design or possess relevant experience.
  • You hold a valid UK driving license.
