Haematology Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Haematology Consultant to join our team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. As a key member of our Haematology department, you will play a vital role in providing expert care to our patients and contributing to the development of our services.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in all facets of departmental activity, including clinical and laboratory duties.
- Share General Haematology duties, rotating through in-patient referrals and liaison Haematology, laboratory cover and general Haemostasis advice.
- Participate in laboratory management, authorisation of laboratory results, anticoagulation dosing, and advice to hospital and GP staff on abnormal results.
- Take part in reporting of bone marrows, blood films and CSF samples shared with other colleagues.
- Be on call duties to cover laboratory duties, calls from the hospital and ward inpatients.
- Contribute to the active teaching programme for undergraduates/specialist registrars /GPs /junior medical staff and nurses.
- Participate in audit and undertake appropriate continuous professional development (CPD) each year.
Clinical Skills
- Demonstrable experience of Haemostasis and Thrombosis.
- Understanding of clinical risk management.
Qualifications
- Full and Specialist Registration with a License to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for Registration within six months of interview.
- MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification.
- FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification.
- Higher professional training in Haematology.
Desirable
- Higher Degree.
Experience
- Applicants that are UK trained, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Knowledge
- Able to demonstrate appropriate level of clinical knowledge.
- Knowledge and use of evidence based practice.
Desirable
- IT skills.
- Breadth of experience in and outside speciality.
- Effective, confident presentation ability.
