Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry Specialist

We are seeking two enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrists to join our Liaison Psychiatry team at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidates will be responsible for providing clinical leadership and consultant input into the Adult Liaison Psychiatry team, working closely with our acute colleagues to provide holistic care for patients with mental health needs who are admitted to the hospital.
The team is funded for a total of 5.0 WTE consultants with doctors-in-training, a team of nurse practitioners and liaison psychology as part of the department.
Job Responsibilities- Provide clinical leadership and consultant input into the Adult Liaison Psychiatry team
- Work closely with acute colleagues to provide holistic care for patients with mental health needs
- Diagnose and manage patients with a wide range of mental health problems who have physical morbidities
- Support teams to manage patients with multiple, long term chronic health conditions
- Develop a special interest in an area of the medical Trust (e.g. surgery, medicine, obstetrics) according to the areas of interest for the post-holder
Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.
We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services.
The transformation will happen in staggered stages, with Hampshire CAMHS joining Southern Health in February 2024, and Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024.
The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.
Person Specification- Full Registration with the General Medical Council
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 12 months of CCT at time of interview
- CCT in general adult psychiatry
- Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
Prior experience of liaison psychiatry (adults), working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant, and experience of audit and clinical governance are desirable.
