Orthoptic Specialist

Crewe, Cheshire East, United Kingdom Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will become a vital member of a collaborative team of Consultant Radiologists within the Medical Imaging Department. This role involves delivering a comprehensive radiological service that includes CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting. While a subspecialty interest is appreciated, it is not a prerequisite. There are numerous opportunities to cultivate a subspecialty focus, which will be actively supported.

The department is bolstered by Specialist Trainees on rotation, alongside radiographers, sonographers, medical imaging assistants, and administrative staff.

The successful applicant will be part of an on-call rota, partially supported by Specialist Trainees. A remote reporting service for CT functions independently from the on-call radiologist during designated hours throughout the week and weekend.

The department utilizes advanced PACS technology and has integrated home reporting to facilitate remote reporting sessions and multidisciplinary team preparations, enhancing the flexibility of agreed job plans.

Main Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for providing a general radiological service, which encompasses CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film reporting. An interest in interventional procedures is encouraged, with ample opportunities for development in this area.

The role of advanced practitioners has evolved, with Radiographers and Sonographers independently conducting a wide array of examinations. The Breast Unit employs advanced practitioners for screening mammography, and one practitioner is trained in stereotactic biopsies. The Breast Department has recently adopted Mag Seed technology and collaborates with other trusts to deliver Breast Screening services.
