Specialist Doctor in Ophthalmology Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join our well-integrated ophthalmology team at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne.

This role will involve providing surgical and outpatient ophthalmology services, contributing to the work of the Emergency Eye Department, and developing an appropriate managerial role to assist with the running of the department.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical:

  • Provide high-quality surgical and outpatient ophthalmology services to patients.
  • Contribute to the work of the Emergency Eye Department, with a focus on medical retina and macular service, laser, cataract surgery, and general ophthalmology.

Administrative:

  • Ensure effective communication with other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve departmental efficiency and patient care.

Research and Teaching:

  • Encourage and participate in research activities, with a focus on medical retina and macular service.
  • Contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology teaching programs, with a focus on clinical and technical skills.
Requirements

We are looking for an experienced ophthalmologist with a recognized basic medical degree, full GMC registration, and fellowship or equivalent in ophthalmology. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 12 years of medical work experience, with a strong background in ophthalmology and a proven track record of delivering high-quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of research methodology, publication of findings, and the ability to teach clinical and technical skills. They will also be able to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to participate in departmental activities.
