Senior Clinical Practitioner in Cardiology
2 months ago
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Senior Clinical Practitioner (SCP) to become a vital member of our Cardiology team.
Our team has been operational for over a decade and is composed of 13 experienced SCPs and 2 trainees, primarily from nursing or pharmacy backgrounds.
The successful applicant will participate in the SCP rota, enhancing our coverage for our heart failure unit. We offer flexibility in the candidate's work schedule. Those with a specific interest in heart failure may focus primarily on this area, while those interested in general cardiology can rotate through various roles, including Chest Pain and Acute Coronary Syndrome clinics, as well as providing support to the Emergency Department and Acute Medical wards.
Opportunities for involvement in shared SCP initiatives and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities will be available.
Key Responsibilities
If you are currently an SCP in a different clinical field with relevant qualifications and are considering a transition, we can provide a supervised training role to help you develop your skills and competencies in this new specialty. Upon appointment, you will receive tailored supervision and assessment to ensure your successful integration into our team.
Your professional growth will be supported through access to a comprehensive postgraduate education program. As an SCP at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, your development will align with a five-year plan that encompasses the four pillars of advanced practice. During this time, you will be encouraged to engage in specialty development within local, regional, and national forums.
Join us in fostering your passion for patient care within a well-established SCP team in a supportive and challenging environment.
About Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

Job Duties
Candidates must possess an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, including Non-Medical Prescribing, and be able to present a portfolio that demonstrates their clinical competencies as an SCP.
You will undergo a structured period of supervision and assessment to ensure your effective integration into our team and to develop your skills within Cardiology. A dedicated Consultant Supervisor will be assigned to you, ensuring you receive appropriate guidance.
The role will involve rotation through Cardiology clinics, wards, and the in-reach team.
Responsibilities include:
- Accepting referrals from the Emergency Department and Acute Medical wards for patients with potential Cardiology issues requiring specialist input.
- Developing management plans for patients with suspected angina, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and other cardiac conditions.
- Managing a caseload of new outpatients with suspected angina, including interpreting diagnostic tests and providing clear management plans to GPs.
- Overseeing follow-up care for patients recently admitted with acute coronary syndrome or post-percutaneous coronary intervention.
- Conducting patient assessments on Cardiology wards, facilitating timely diagnosis, and ensuring comprehensive discharge summaries are completed.
