Workshop Engineer Job Description

Aspire Personnel Ltd is seeking a skilled Workshop Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and customising machinery in line with customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare machines for sale or customer on-site use by working to set checklists.
  • Perform service and/or maintenance on industrial food processing and packaging machinery.
  • Build control panels from scratch using mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components.
  • Fault find on electrical systems.
  • Design small-scale electrical and pneumatic systems to meet unique customer requirements.
  • Change or retrofit electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic machine parts according to customer needs.
  • Work on projects or machinery both alone and as part of a team.
  • Strip down existing machinery and carry out repairs.
  • Manoeuvre heavy machinery around the warehouse and workshop using forklift truck or pump truck.
  • Use safe manual handling practices to move heavy machinery parts.
  • Aware of COSHH safe working practices.
  • Accurately document and record machine information to ensure all departments are informed.
  • Use word and excel to create, edit, and document various processes in the warehouse.
  • Program drives with pre-programmed manufacturer software and settings.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
  • Liaise with stores team to ensure accurate booking-out of required machine parts.
  • Clean machinery parts.
  • Work with various electrical systems (single phase, 3-phase, and 24v).
  • Work with R&D to ensure projects designed in-house are fit for customer purpose.
  • Work with Service to communicate about machinery in the workshop.
  • Support Service engineers with machinery queries.
Requirements:
  • NVQ level 2 in an engineering discipline.
  • Great communicator.
  • Ability to take initiative.
  • Hands-on approach.
  • COSHH awareness.
  • Hands-on experience with pneumatics, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable Qualifications:
  • NVQ level 3 in an engineering discipline.
  • Level 3 BTEC in engineering (or equivalent).
  • Apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Forklift licence.
  • Experience of using drawing software or programming software highly beneficial.
  • Experience of using Solidworks, Rockwell Alan Bradley, and Omron software desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of deciding panel layout of electrical systems.
