Job Title: Deputy Commercial Finance Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen within South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust to join our Finance team as a Deputy Commercial Finance Manager. The successful candidate will assist the Senior Finance Manager in providing accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information and advice to a range of individuals.

Main Responsibilities

To support the Senior Finance Manager in ensuring effective use of financial resources in pursuit of agreed Divisional and Corporate goals. To support the Senior Finance Manager in budget setting, financial planning, forecasting, monthly monitoring, and reporting within corporate standards and timetables. To deputise for the Senior Finance Manager as appropriate.

Key Accountabilities
  • To support the Senior Finance Manager, providing financial information, advice, and support to the Associate Director of Operations, Associate Medical Directors, and other divisional staff.
  • To meet regularly with budget managers to ensure that the financial position of the division and the Trust is understood and that any potential financial problems are identified early enough for corrective action to be taken.
  • To have responsibility for some aspects of budgetary management as delegated by the Senior Finance Manager, including monitoring of performance and providing advice on corrective action as necessary.
  • To take a lead role in the annual budget setting process for delegated departments/sub-divisional areas within the division.
Requirements

The postholder must be a fully qualified member of Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB). The postholder requires expert knowledge and experience of all financial systems and must be able to interrogate financial information systems and manage the data to provide managers with high-quality and timely information for decision-making.

The postholder must have a graduate or equivalent qualification plus professional postgraduate accountancy qualifications. CCAB finalists or newly qualified will be considered. The postholder must have three years' work experience in a finance role, as a minimum, or a similar level of knowledge acquired through experience.

The postholder must have in-depth specialist knowledge and understanding of financial management, budgetary control, and relevant accounting procedures/principles. The postholder must be an expert user of Financial Systems and databases, in particular E-Financial and Excel.

The postholder must have demonstrable evidence of influencing and persuading. The postholder must be highly numerate and analytical. The postholder must have good report writing skills. The postholder must have an understanding of current NHS structures and key policies, especially SLR and Foundation Trusts.

The postholder must have knowledge of acute hospital environment. The postholder must be able to lead and motivate staff. The postholder must be able to plan and prioritise workload effectively. The postholder must have MS Access skills. The postholder must have experience at managing staff.

The postholder must be committed to Continuing Professional Development. The postholder must command credibility and respect from operational managers and colleagues. The postholder must be able to concentrate and work under pressure. The postholder must be professional and have a reputation for integrity. The postholder must be flexible and supportive. The postholder must be commercially astute.

The postholder must have knowledge and understanding of equal opportunities. The postholder must be able to travel between sites. The postholder must have Occupational Health clearance. The postholder must be working towards ECDL.
