About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Emergency Medicine Specialist to join our dynamic team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. This is a full-time position for a 6-12 month period, equivalent to ST3+ level.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide initial treatment to new patients presenting to the Emergency Department, including those in the Resuscitation Room.
- Offer support and guidance to junior doctors within the department.
- Collaborate effectively with Consultants and other medical specialties as needed.
- Work closely with nursing staff to ensure smooth departmental operations and adherence to national targets for floor management.
About Our Department
The Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is a Level 1 Major Trauma Centre, serving over 100,000 new patients annually. We handle a high volume of complex and challenging cases, providing a rewarding and clinically stimulating environment.
Our department boasts:
- 6 Resuscitation Bays and 16 Majors' Cubicles
- A dedicated Minor Injury and Illness area with consulting rooms, an eye/ENT room equipped with a slit lamp, plaster room, and operating theatre for minor procedures.
- 24-hour support from portering, bed management, and reception teams.
- Consultant presence from 08:00 to 24:00 hours, with middle grade cover from midnight to 08:00 hours.
- Consultant-led review clinics five times a week.
