About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Systems Engineer to join our team at Babcock International Group. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and development of complex electrical and electronic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform electromagnetic effects analysis, including Tempest, Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Interference (EMC/EMI), Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP), electrostatic discharge (ESD), and lightning review.
  • Support multiple design and build projects, delivering valued oversight across all phases of the design lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of EMC/EMI principles and technologies, staying up-to-date with industry developments and advancements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Design and develop ground systems, chassis, and harness shielding, EMI filters, and interface circuitry to achieve EMC and Tempest requirements.
  • Prepare and review test procedures, test reports, technical analyses, control plans, and participate in cross-discipline design reviews for EMC.

Requirements

  • EMC/EMI experience, with a strong understanding of lab test equipment such as spectrum analysers, generators, amplifiers, and measurement antennas.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully allocate, tailor, and flow down system-level EMC/EMI requirements into lower-level requirements.
  • Extensive design experience with EMI filters, circuit layout, and analysis for EMC/EMI, shielding, lightning protection, cable, and harnessing design.
  • Working knowledge and experience in modelling and simulation of EMC/EMI using commercially available software.
  • High level of developed knowledge, with a strong aptitude for learning new and exciting innovations.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level, or HNC/HND equivalent, coupled with significant experience in the relevant engineering discipline.
  • Preferrable but not essential a master's degree in electrical engineering, with a specialty in Electromagnetics, RF, or analogue circuitry.
  • Ideally, you will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold or working towards Chartered or Incorporated status or you will have significant demonstrable engineering experience and capable of registration with the Engineering Council at CEng level.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
