Job Description

Job Title: Consultant in Immunology

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Immunology to join our team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. As a Consultant in Immunology, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to patients with immunological disorders, conducting research, and contributing to the development of our immunology services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sustain the current capacity of the immunology service, with a view to expansion following further development of nursing clinics and review of patient throughput.
  • Ensure the smooth flow from diagnosis to treatment and follow-up.
  • Support the development of the immunology service, including the development of innovative ways of working to sustain increasing patient load.
  • Contribute to the immunology on-call rota.
  • Ensure optimal delivery of diagnostic laboratory support in line with standards from clinical pathology accreditation and in line with the planned developments of the Yorkshire diagnostic laboratory network.

Person Specification:

  • MB BS or equivalent qualification.
  • MRCP or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificate of completion of Specialist training in Immunology FRCPath or equivalent.
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Up-to-date and fit to practise safely.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant higher degree, e.g., MD/PhD relevant to the sub-specialty.
  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
  • Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
  • Attendance at recognised management course.
  • Experience in connective tissue disease diagnosis and management.

Further Requirements:

  • Medically fit to fulfil all aspects of the post, and to be able to respond quickly to emergencies, as necessary.
  • Meet professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice).
  • Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process.
