Key Responsibilities

Integrate clinical psychology within the broader mental health team. Deliver a comprehensive specialist clinical psychology service to clients. Conduct specialized psychological assessments and therapy, providing guidance and consultation on clients' psychological care to the clinical team. Operate autonomously within professional guidelines and the framework of the service's policies. Utilize research skills for audits, policy development, and research within the Health & Justice Services Directorate. Provide clinical supervision to team members as appropriate. Contribute to reflective practice and critical thinking within the team on a case-by-case basis and in service improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities Overview

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct specialized psychological assessments for clients referred to the service, utilizing various psychological data sources to formulate clients' difficulties. Develop and implement treatment plans for clients' mental health issues based on appropriate conceptual frameworks and evidence-based methods. Responsible for delivering a range of psychological interventions for individuals, families, and groups, adjusting interventions as necessary. Provide specialist assessments for clients with cognitive impairments, adjusting interventions to meet their complex needs. Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and the historical context of clients. Offer specialist psychological advice and consultation to other professionals contributing to clients' treatment plans. Contribute to a psychologically informed framework of care benefiting all clients across various settings. Conduct risk assessments and provide advice on psychological aspects of risk management. Communicate effectively and sensitively regarding assessment, formulation, and treatment plans. Promote multi-disciplinary teamwork and user involvement in care planning. Stay updated on de-escalation and physical intervention techniques relevant to the service environment.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical, counseling, or forensic psychology accredited by the BPS, or equivalent qualifications. HCPC Registered as a Practitioner Psychologist. Experience in specialist psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings. Demonstrated experience in applied psychology with substantial clinical supervision. Experience working with diverse client groups and in multicultural frameworks. Knowledge of guidance and legislation related to mental health.

Desirable

Experience in secure environments or forensic mental health. Training in trauma-informed approaches. High-level knowledge of neuropsychology.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

Advanced skills in psychological assessment and intervention. Strong communication skills for conveying complex information. Ability to provide consultation to professional groups. Competence in supervising junior staff and trainees. Understanding of clinical governance mechanisms.
