Job Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and talented structural or mechanical engineer from a steelwork background to join our team in Plymouth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering principles and be able to work autonomously.

This role involves working on various steel structures for major local infrastructure projects, as well as assessing operational and design basis failures. The successful candidate will be required to work closely with our team of engineers to produce design packages from concept through to on-site installation and commissioning.

The company offers a competitive salary of £45,000 - £60,000 DOE, with yearly pay increments based on inflation and a yearly bonus up to 20%. We also offer a flexible working environment and opportunities for professional development towards Chartered Engineer Status.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and develop engineering packages for major projects
  2. Assess operational and design basis failures
  3. Work closely with the team to produce design packages
  4. Contribute to the development of the company's engineering capabilities
Requirements:
  1. Engineering degree or equivalent
  2. Broad engineering knowledge and understanding of engineering facilities and / or building services
  3. Ability to learn new skills and techniques
  4. Excellent written communication skills
  5. Enthusiastic, self-motivated, confident and able to work unsupervised
  6. Good interpersonal skills
  7. Able to manage own time and work load
  8. Willing to work in an office and to travel where projects require
  9. Willing to undertake training and professional development
Desirable Skills:
  1. Knowledge of steel design codes
  2. Use of 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoDesk AutoCAD, Inventor, relevant engineering software such as MathCAD/Hevacomp/STAAD/A3D Max and MS Word/Excel
  3. Properties of engineering materials such as carbon and stainless steels and aluminium
  4. Design appreciation of civil / steelwork structures
  5. Design of mechanisms to be able to integrate bearings / gearboxes / drives
  6. Experience of installation and commissioning plant
