About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior to Principal Bat Ecologist to join our busy ecology department within our Exeter office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead complex ecological projects, providing technical advice to clients across various sectors.
  • Develop and implement effective conservation strategies, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality projects, meeting client expectations and deadlines.
  • Conduct thorough ecological assessments, including surveys and impact analyses, to inform project decisions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams, ensuring effective communication and project delivery.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and emerging trends, applying this knowledge to enhance project outcomes.
Requirements
  • Degree-level qualification in Ecology or a related field.
  • Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent.
  • Level 2 Bat Licence.
  • Minimum 3 years of project management experience, with excellent client liaison skills.
  • Strong knowledge of best practice survey techniques, relevant wildlife legislation, and protected species licensing.
  • Advanced understanding of ecology and wildlife protection in the UK planning system.
  • Experience in advising clients on Biodiversity Net Gain, including production of Biodiversity Impact Assessments (BIA) and use of the DEFRA metric.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality documents, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) reports, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and GIS packages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
