Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Companies House as we embark on a significant legislative programme of change, enhancing our powers to improve the integrity of the companies register and combat economic crime.

We are seeking an exceptional lawyer to join our Compliance and Enforcement team as a Lead Prosecuting Solicitor. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality legal services to support our transformation agenda.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prosecute companies and individuals for offences under the Companies Acts and the Register of Overseas Entities regime.
  • Decide on appropriate charges, consider whether prosecution is the appropriate path, and attend court to prosecute offences.
  • Work within the Compliance and Enforcement service to ensure statutory requirements are met and non-compliance is dealt with robustly and proportionately.
  • Develop effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve desired service outcomes.
  • Provide high-quality, accurate, and timely legal advice and guidance on policy, legislative, and operational matters.
  • Support Companies House's transformation agenda and provide training and support to colleagues on relevant legal issues.
Requirements
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, having completed a training contract or pupillage.
  • Understanding of the prosecution process and application of relevant codes of practice.
  • Ability to draft documents, including skeleton arguments and criminal charges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize competing demands.
