Mechanical Design Engineer

At Sanderson Government & Defence, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our design authority, you will be responsible for delivering mechanical designs that meet safety and performance requirements.
Key Accountabilities- Design Delivery: Deliver mechanical designs that meet safety and performance requirements, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards, and requirements associated with engineering design throughout the facility life cycle.
- Legislative Knowledge: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant legislative documentation/standards associated with mechanical design engineering, ensuring that designs are compliant with regulatory requirements.
- ESH&Q: Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality, ensuring that designs are safe and compliant with Company Assurance Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESH&Q) requirements.
- Design Development: Deliver mechanical engineering designs that address defined requirements, across the full engineering life cycle, to a high standard, ensuring that design intent is maintained throughout the life cycle.
- Collaboration: Liaise with other discipline areas to ensure overall design intent is maintained, ensuring that designs are integrated and compliant with Company Assurance ESH&Q requirements.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with Company Assurance ESH&Q and statutory requirements, ensuring that designs are safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Best Practice: Ensure application of standards is proportionate and that engineering best practice is adopted, ensuring that designs are efficient and effective.
- Design Experience: Producing mechanical designs as part of a multi-discipline design team, with a strong understanding of mechanical design principles and practices.
- Legislative Knowledge: Working knowledge of legislation and standards applicable to mechanical engineering, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Technical Skills: Competent in standard office software, and engineering tools and applications, with a strong understanding of design software and tools.
- Regulated Environment: Experience of working in a highly regulated environment, preferably nuclear and/or explosives, with a strong understanding of regulatory requirements.
- Education: ONC/OND or equivalent in electrical engineering or other related discipline, with a strong understanding of design principles and practices.
