Position Overview

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Locum Speech and Language Specialist to join our team at Red Sector Recruitment Limited. This role is essential in supporting the transition of patients recovering from strokes, ensuring they receive the necessary speech and language therapy interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations of patients' communication and swallowing capabilities within a healthcare setting to identify challenges and set rehabilitation objectives.
  • Treatment Planning: Collaborate with patients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to create tailored therapy plans that focus on enhancing communication, speech clarity, cognitive-communication skills, and safe swallowing techniques.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Deliver direct therapy sessions, utilizing a variety of exercises and activities designed to improve speech and swallowing functions, while adapting approaches to meet the evolving needs of patients.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and dietitians, to ensure cohesive care strategies and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Team Participation: Engage in team meetings and case discussions to monitor patient progress and coordinate discharge planning effectively.
  • Home Assessments: Perform home visits to facilitate the transition of patients from hospital to home, providing necessary education and support to patients and their caregivers.
  • Patient and Family Education: Offer guidance to patients and their families on recovery processes, communication techniques, and available community resources to empower their involvement in rehabilitation.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of assessments, interventions, and patient progress in compliance with professional standards.
  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing learning to enhance clinical skills and stay updated with the latest research and best practices in speech and language therapy.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines, ensuring the safety and well-being of all patients.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech and Language Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • A minimum of five years of post-qualification experience in speech and language therapy, particularly with stroke patients.
  • Expertise in stroke rehabilitation, dysphagia management, and cognitive-communication therapy.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems for effective documentation and communication.
