About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Associate to join our Data team at Sheridans, a leading London law firm. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data protection and commercial law, with a focus on GDPR compliance and software licensing.

The ideal candidate will have a methodical approach to work, with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail. They will be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of liaising with senior internal stakeholders and clients.

The role will involve drafting agreements and legal documents, assessing clients' data uses and respective impact on privacy, advising clients, negotiating with counterparts, and marketing and business development.

About the Team

The Data team at Sheridans consists of 3 partners and 6 associates, supported by 3 personal assistants. We have a strong focus on innovation and technology, with specialist expertise in IT and technology law, covering software & digital services, data protection & cyber risk, emerging technologies, industry focus, and commercial law.

Responsibilities
  • Drafting of agreements and legal documents
  • Assessing clients' data uses and respective impact on privacy
  • Advising clients
  • Negotiating with counterparts
  • Marketing and business development
Requirements
  • Experience of software licensing, including software as a service and on premises contracts
  • Experience of working on GDPR and privacy projects, including notices, processing and transfer agreements, impact assessments, internal policies and cybersecurity
  • Commercial awareness and negotiating skills
  • Interpersonal skills, to work as part of a team or with other people and organisations
  • A professional approach to work, integrity and a respect for confidentiality
  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of liaising with senior internal stakeholders and clients
  • Enthusiasm and resilience, with an excellent client service ethic
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade and influence colleagues and clients at all levels
  • Ability to remain organised, prioritise and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times
  • Flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a well-regarded university
  • For London based candidates - qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales
  • For German based candidates – qualified as a lawyer in Germany or another European jurisdiction or before the New York or California bar (USA)
