Position Overview

The Surgical Care Specialist will deliver exceptional patient care while actively engaging in the assessment, execution, and review of the care requirements for the designated patient demographic.

The individual in this role will be expected to perform essential care tasks independently and contribute to the education of peers.

This position involves participating in the ongoing enhancement of the surgical department and embracing new initiatives and modifications as they arise.

The Surgical Care Specialist will be required to work across two areas of surgical practice, including Anaesthetics, and should be open to pursuing additional training opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

PROFESSIONAL

Adhere to the relevant professional conduct standards at all times. Ensure that patient care is delivered with professionalism, courtesy, and empathy, while respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds of colleagues and patients. Foster effective communication and collaboration among theatre staff and other healthcare professionals. Stay informed about advancements and future trends in peri-operative practices. Contribute to a supportive learning environment for all staff levels and engage in mentoring student practitioners.

CLINICAL

Exhibit proficiency in specialized care within the surgical setting. Maintain accurate and clear documentation in accordance with professional standards. Comply with organizational policies regarding information governance. Manage controlled substances responsibly and know how to report any discrepancies. Actively participate in the education and mentorship of students and junior staff members. Undertake responsibilities within the scope of practice and professional guidelines. Assist anaesthetists with regional anaesthetic procedures as needed.
