Position Overview

We are pleased to announce openings for dedicated and passionate professionals to join our esteemed team of senior gastroenterology consultants. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in interventional endoscopy, nutrition, or hepatology. These roles are intended to replace existing positions, with the potential for service expansion in the near future.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be responsible for managing outpatient and endoscopy lists, as well as providing support for inpatient care. This will involve participating in a 7-day consultant of the week model and contributing to the GI bleed rota. We encourage our team members to pursue their professional development and personal interests, while also engaging in undergraduate and postgraduate education and/or research initiatives.

Main Duties

As a JAG accredited center, we provide a wide array of diagnostic and therapeutic services for various gastroenterological conditions. Our commitment is to deliver exceptional care, ensuring that our patients can access our services promptly and efficiently.

The post holders will collaborate with other department members to deliver high-quality secondary and/or tertiary gastroenterology services, complementing the existing subspecialization within the department. The final job plan will be established upon appointment, but candidates should expect to engage in a mix of general gastroenterology, endoscopy, GI bleed on-call duties, and ward coverage, while also providing specialized advice to both primary and secondary care professionals. Development of a subspecialty interest is encouraged, particularly in advanced therapeutic endoscopy, nutrition, or hepatology.

Contributions to both undergraduate and postgraduate education are expected, and research interests will be actively supported.

Job Responsibilities

Depending on departmental needs, the job plan may include elements of flexible working or annualized sessions.

  • Contribute to the clinical delivery and development of specialized services (advanced endoscopy, hepatology, nutrition).
  • Manage an average of 2-3 endoscopy sessions weekly.
  • Oversee an average of 2-3 outpatient clinics weekly.
  • Participate in the management of inpatient gastroenterology/hepatology services.
  • Engage in the emergency GI bleed rota.
  • Provide specialized advice to colleagues in both primary and secondary care settings.
  • Adhere to established management guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with the GMC.
  • Eligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register in gastroenterology and general medicine or equivalent.
