As a Satellite Systems Operations Specialist, your primary role will involve managing Spire's Satellite Constellation operations. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the satellite network while collaborating closely with engineering and software development teams to enhance satellite performance and the associated ground systems.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Utilizing command-and-control software within a Unix environment to achieve mission objectives for the satellite constellation throughout all operational phases, including launch, commissioning, production, and re-entry (with the expectation of off-hours and weekend support).
  • Identifying and addressing anomalous conditions within the satellite and ground station networks, assisting engineering teams in recovery efforts, and maintaining comprehensive documentation.
  • Keeping precise logs of satellite operations and updating the knowledge base with relevant subsystem status changes.
  • Creating and modifying tools to automate manual tasks in satellite operations.
  • Developing automated command scripts in Python for new spacecraft activities.
  • Supporting on-ground testing campaigns through documentation, execution, analysis, and debugging phases.
  • Assessing on-orbit payload performance by analyzing observation data and satellite telemetry.
  • Acting as a liaison between engineering and operations teams to implement new features and resolve on-orbit challenges.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience with satellite command and control systems.
  • Proficiency in Python and Linux environments.
  • Familiarity with GitHub and/or software configuration management tools.
  • Experience in process automation, from design through software development.
  • Ability to write issue tickets and discrepancy reports.
  • Experience in anomaly detection and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical skills, including statistics, hypothesis testing, and data visualization.
  • Experience in a 24/7 support environment.
  • Knowledge of satellite bus system operations, including Electrical Power Systems (EPS), Attitude Determination and Control Systems (ADCS), or Communications Systems.
  • Background in systems engineering, covering design, implementation, verification, and operational phases.
  • Experience in developing spacecraft payload or bus components.
  • Experience in cross-disciplinary teams or program management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative environment.
