About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Safety and Security Design team at Telent Technology Services Ltd. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and building a team of design engineers to produce high-quality designs on a right-first-time basis.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in design and project delivery, with experience in managing teams and leading technical design reviews. You will be responsible for ensuring that designs are compliant with applicable rail standards, follow SOPs, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and promote the reuse of design templates across all design teams.
  • Continuously look to improve and provide a more efficient process.
  • Work with the Assurance teams to define how requirements are tracked across the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs are compliant to applicable Rail Standards, follow SOP's and best practice.
  • Guide and coach teams as needed across the design teams.
  • Support the Technical Design Review process as the SME for the design elements of the deliverables.
  • Drive the future strategy for innovating design delivery.
  • Line management of a multi-disciplined team of design engineers.
  • Create and maintain a succession plan, with contingency and scope for career development within the team.
  • Ensure that the latest technology and vendor developments are tracked with a view to incorporating into designs.
  • Support the bid process to ensure that the effort estimates for design and design reviews are accurate.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure that designs are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Escalate any risks/challenges with design delivery immediately on discovery.
  • Attend site during the survey and build phases of the projects to obtain feedback and continuously improve designs.
About You

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager or Design Lead who is looking to step up into the Engineering Manager role but will have people management experience already. You will be responsible for agreeing and setting goals with the team and helping to manage their career development, which we actively encourage.

You will be able to demonstrate your knowledge around the CCTV, PAVA, Access Control or similar related technical environments and will work closely with other teams to ensure successful delivery of the customers' requirements.

You will have an attention to detail and take pride in your own and your teams' work and will be comfortable managing stakeholders, internal and external at all levels.
