Position Overview

Job Title: Lead Academic

Department: Department of Higher Learning

Reporting to: Programme Director / Head of Department

Accountable for: guiding a specific cohort of learners to excel at Regent College London and plays a vital role in the effective design, implementation, and enhancement of educational programs within the discipline.

Work Schedule: The expected work hours are 40 hours weekly. Operational hours are Monday to Thursday, 9am - 9pm and Friday to Sunday, 9am - 6pm.

Work Location: Flexibility to operate across various campuses is required.

Compensation: Competitive annual salary aligned with market standards.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Lead Academic is a pivotal role within our educational management framework, tasked with ensuring that a designated group of learners fully capitalizes on the opportunities available at Regent College London and reaches their full potential.

This position encompasses the complete responsibilities of the Academic role, in addition to the academic and student support management duties outlined below. The individual will provide a blend of instruction, student assistance, and academic oversight to their respective department, ensuring student engagement and success in their educational pursuits.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Oversight

The Lead Academic will assume line management duties for a designated number of Academic Staff in support of learners. In fulfilling this role, the individual will:

  • Implement a work allocation strategy for their team.
  • Establish effective reporting mechanisms to track the progress of staff and student activities.
  • Ensure adherence to academic processes in accordance with institutional policies and accrediting bodies.
  • Conduct necessary line management functions for the assigned team.
  • Assist in the professional development processes for assigned staff.
  • Engage in the recruitment and onboarding of staff and students as needed.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues and provide guidance on professional growth.

Student Assistance

The individual will:

  • Serve as the primary senior academic contact for a designated group of students.
  • Collaborate with the Student Services, Financial Aid, and Academic Resources teams to support students and ensure that support plans are accessible.
  • Advocate for student feedback and manage their academic needs effectively.
  • Address any concerns regarding student engagement or performance, directing students to specialized college services as necessary.
  • Attend to any pastoral needs students may have, referring them to appropriate college services as required.
  • Monitor the progress of individual students' Learning Support Plans, coordinating with specialized services as needed.

Instruction

The individual will:

  • Maintain a reduced teaching load due to student support responsibilities.
  • Develop instructional materials and deliver content across various modules or within a specific subject area.
  • Create detailed Schemes of Work, subject to academic review and oversight by the Programme Leader.
  • Ensure timely submission of student work, aiming for a 90% on-time submission rate, and manage this process efficiently.
  • Be accountable for the academic success of each student and the Key Performance Indicators established by the institution.
  • Prepare module evaluation reports and contribute to Annual Monitoring Reports and Programme Evaluations as appropriate.

Assessment and Evaluation

The individual will:

  • Provide timely and constructive formative feedback to students.
  • Design and assess summative evaluations in accordance with approved assessment guidelines, delivering timely feedback to students within established deadlines.
  • Identify potential cases of academic misconduct and escalate them according to established procedures, providing necessary support.
  • Review all relevant module assessments to ensure compliance with accrediting body expectations.
  • Update assessments as necessary for each new academic year (e.g., Resits, Answer Keys, Marking Rubrics).
  • Prepare and oversee all External Examiner and Assessment Board Reports.
  • Contribute to the Annual Monitoring Report.

Research and Development

The individual will:

  • Engage in scholarly activities within the department, ensuring that the impact is reflected in the classroom.
  • Support departmental initiatives in alignment with the College's Scholarship Plan.
