Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Tarmac, a leading Civil Engineering Contractor. As a key member of our commercial team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of our projects for Bristol City Council.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert construction and contractual knowledge to commercial and operational staff on project(s) and mentor subordinate commercial staff as required.
  • Undertake negotiations with all parties, providing negotiation experience and support to staff on projects.
  • Ensure a commercial review of a programme is undertaken prior to the timely submission for project(s).
  • Provide advice to commercial staff in assessing delay and disruption on project(s) as required.
  • Undertake and supervise the valuation of subcontract management, including timely payment against subcontract and agreement of final accounts.
  • Maintain regular contact with client counterparts to manage customer expectations.
  • Engage and manage sub-contracts, including tender enquiries, award, and assessment of monthly payment applications.
  • Support the production of monthly CVR's.
  • Seek support if required and provide advice to other staff to minimize disputes with clients and subcontractors on projects.
  • Ensure all contracts and sub-contracts provide the minimum requirement for insurance on all projects within remit.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role, with Civil Engineering experience highly preferable.
  • Understanding of the civil engineering or highways sector, construction experience, and NEC3/4 experience would be beneficial.
  • BSc or MSc Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills, with strong numeracy and analytical ability.
  • Process-driven with strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
